Anyone who once arrived in Delft by train walked into the city through the old station building. The stately building opened in 1885 to a design by architect Christiaan Posthumus Meyjes, and is now a national monument. Since the trains disappeared underground in 2015, it has taken on a completely different role.
Developer Open Development, together with Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau, gave the monument a second life. The former station hall is now home to Italian restaurant Pavarotti, with a bar beneath the restored coffered ceiling and a Delft Blue tile tableau of the famous "Hondenkop" train. The floors above have been turned into prestigious office spaces.
